Yesterday, Apple Music shared the streaming platform’s 500 most-streamed songs of the decade. Surprisingly, big names like Taylor Swift and Drake aren’t at the very top of the list. Instead, it looks like English singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran has topped Apple Music’s list with his 2017 chart-topping hit, “Shape Of You”.

Yesterday, July 5, Apple Music announced that Ed Sheeran’s pop ballad had been listened to more times than any other track on the streaming platform in the last 10 years. Sheeran beat out megahits like “God’s Plan” by Drake and “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd.
Unsurprisingly, “Shape Of You” also broke Apple Music’s record for the most total first-day streams when the song was first released back in 2017.
“No one can take away the song,” Sheeran said of “Shape Of You”. “I’ll be able to play it forever. I’m just grateful that I have songs like that, that you could be anywhere in the world and someone gives you a guitar and you can make someone happy with it.”
When “Shape Of You” first hit the airwaves, it topped the US Billboard Hot 100 list and became the year’s best-performing song across multiple countries. It stayed at No. 1 for a whopping 14 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, and 12 weeks on the Hot 100 chart. It also became the first-ever song to hit two billion streams on Apple Music’s competitor platform, Spotify.
Who Else Topped Apple Music’s 500 Most-Streamed Songs List?
Naturally, a ton of other huge songs from the last 10 years topped Apple Music’s most-streamed list. After “Shape Of You” by Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd’s 2019 hit “Blinding Lights” made it to the No. 2 mark. “God’s Plan” by Drake came in third, with “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee coming in at No. 4. Another Post Malone song followed, specifically his collaboration with 21 Savage titled “rockstar”. Drake, Travis Scott, more Ed Sheeran songs, Chris Brown, Billie Eilish, and The Chainsmokers followed.
A number of other big names made it to Apple Music’s list. Plenty of songs by Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Lil Baby, J. Cole, BTS, Future, and Kendrick Lamar made it to the list multiple times.
