Ten years after releasing his debut album The Limestone Kid, Parker McCollum isn’t quite certain he’s a country singer anymore. But the “What Kinda Man” singer, 32, is okay with that. However one classifies his sound, fans clearly aren’t getting tired of hearing it. Last weekend, fans at the Boots in the Park festival got a pleasant surprise when Parker McCollum jumped onstage with legendary duo Brooks & Dunn.

See Parker McCollum Sing This Classic With Brooks & Dunn
While Brooks & Dunn recently chose to re-record their 2003 hit “Red Dirt Road” with Cody Johnson, Parker McCollum could have just as easily joined them on their 2019 album Reboot.
Back in 2003, “Red Dirt Road” gave Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn their 18th No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The song pays homage to the pair’s hometowns of Shreveport, Louisiana, and El Dorado, Arkansas.
McCollum was just a 10-year-old living in Conroe, Texas, when “Red Dirt Road” hit the radio. However, he sang the words with conviction when he joined Brooks & Dunn onstage last Saturday (March 8) at the Boots in the Park festival in Bakersfield, California.
McCollum and the “Neon Moon” twosome played back-to-back sets at the California festival. The former performed hits like “Hell of a Year,” “Pretty Heart,” and “Young Man’s Blues.”
“It was epic,” one Instagram user declared.
Ronnie Dunn Gives Parker McCollum Some Fatherly Advice
As Parker McCollum stood onstage following a rousing “Red Dirt Road” performance with Brooks & Dunn, the two-time ACM Award winner absent-mindedly sucked on a silver chain hanging from his neck. That is, until Ronnie Dunn put a stop to it.
Footage posted to TikTok shows the “My Maria” singer-songwriter, 71, patting the younger man on the shoulder and seemingly gesturing for him to remove the chain from his mouth. McCollum appears slightly contrite as he let the jewelry fall. The two embrace, and McCollum waves to the crowd some more.
“Parker looks so embarrassed,” one TikTok user observed.
Another offered a different take. “See, I think Ronnie said ‘should I put mine in my mouth’ and honestly Parker looked like he’s choked up,” they wrote. “Like he’s taking the moment in.”
