Tony Iommi Is “Nervous” Ahead of Black Sabbath’s Sendoff Gig in Villa Park: “People Are Coming From All Over the World”

Black Sabbath is officially coming to an end this month. The world-famous heavy metal outfit is set to perform a highly anticipated concert in Birmingham, England. The show will take place at Villa Park this upcoming Saturday, July 5. A concert is nothing new for the remaining members of Black Sabbath. However, the group’s longtime famed guitarist, Tony Iommi, recently admitted that the band is a bit anxious about the upcoming show.

“We’re all nervous really,” Iommi told BBC Midlands this morning. He also noted that performing the farewell concert in the band’s hometown will be completely different “from anything else we’ve done.”

This isn’t the first time Tony Iommi has made it clear that he and the rest of the band are nervous about their last-ever gig. Last month, Iommi said that he was worried about the “unknown” and not knowing “what’s going to happen.”

Now, Tony Iommi admits just a day ahead of the concert that the band is feeling those pre-performance jitters. Thankfully, per this recent BBC interview, Iommi noted that preparations for the show have been going well.

Black Sabbath’s Upcoming Final Concert Will Be a Legendary Sendoff

The upcoming final concert will feature the original lineup of Black Sabbath. Specifically, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler will hit the stage for the first time together in nearly 20 years. Osbourne, who has been suffering from health issues as of late, will only sing about four songs. According to Iommi, even though preparations have been going well, the rehearsals have been hard on all members of the band. It’s worth noting that all of them are over the age of 75.

“I wouldn’t say it’s been easy,” said Tony Iommi. “It’s been tough, because none of us are getting younger and to stand there for a couple of hours is tiring.”

Over 40,000 people are expected to show up at the highly anticipated event. Fans of Metallica, Pantera, Halestorm, Slayer, and Anthrax will be attending the show as well. That group of bands is set to open for Black Sabbath’s final show.

“People are coming from all over the world and I just can’t absorb it,” Iommi continued.

Plenty of Black Sabbath’s contemporaries have announced final shows, only to later come back yet again. Tony Iommi has made it clear that this is really the end for Black Sabbath.

“We’re never going to do this again, this will be it,” the guitarist confirmed.
