Oasis Reunites Onstage for the First Time in 16 Years: “Was It Worth the 40,000 Pounds You Paid for the Ticket?”

Britpop legends Oasis’ success was often overshadowed by in-fighting between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. That in-fighting came to an explosive end in 2009 when Noel quit the band ahead of a 2009 show near Paris. With Liam, 52, swearing as recently as 2024 that the brothers would never reunite, things looked hopeless for diehard Oasis fans. Four short months later, the brothers announced their reunion tour. And on Friday (July 4), the impossible finally happened at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Oasis Fans Go Wild as Gallagher Brothers Duet For the First Time in Nearly Two Decades

According to live updates from the BBC, Oasis appropriately kicked off their reunion tour with “Hello.” Next, Noel and Liam Gallagher segued into their 1995 song “Acquiesce.” The brothers sent a message of solidarity as their voices joined together to sing, Because we need each other / We believe in one another / And I know we’re going to uncover / What’s sleepin’ in our soul.

“Yes beautiful people!” exclaimed Liam. “It’s been too long.”

At one point, the younger Gallagher sibling jokingly referenced the Ticketmaster debacle, asking the crowd, “Was it worth the 40,000 pounds you paid for the ticket?”

Why They Split in the First Place

Overall, the atmosphere couldn’t have been more different from the last time the Gallaghers shared a stage. Halfway through Bloc Party’s set at the Rock en Seine festival near Paris on Aug. 28, 2009, frontman Kele Okereke announced Oasis would not perform. Two hours later, Noel, now 58, announced his departure on the band’s official website. “I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer,” wrote the lead guitarist.

During the next 15 years, the brothers frequently engaged in sparring matches in the media, with Liam once calling Noel “tofu boy.” Meanwhile, Noel compared his younger brother to ” a man with a fork in a world of soup.”

The Oasis Live ’25 Tour runs through Nov. 23, 2025, when it wraps up in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The tour includes five stops in North America, including Chicago and Pasadena, California.
